Cleaning Your Carpets Right and Review of EcoCarpet

I was given the opportunity to review EcoClean Carpets. I was a little hesitant at first cause I figured my carpets were just too far gone. In the end I LOVED it and learned a lot. I was very happy with their service, quality, product and overall experience.

Having your carpet cleaned is a great excuse to clean up. I always find we do the best cleaning when company is coming over. This was a lot more thorough cleanup than just company though.  I wanted as much stuff off the floor as possible, which resulted in a lot of clutter sorting, finally finishing projects, clothes sorting, and even cleaning under things like my kids bed and the couch. Why under things you ask? Well  because EcoCarpet actually moves and clean under furniture. Not the big stuff like my huge entertainment center, or sectional, but things like chairs, couches and small tables. They even moved my daughters little toddler bed.  Granted I got pretty much everything off the floor before hand, but there were still a few things. If you need a good excuse to clean things out and de-clutter, getting your carpet professionally cleaned is a great way to do it.

I didn't say this to EcoClean when I scheduled, but I was very curious as to how different of a job they would do compared to the carpet cleaner I got for Christmas. Let me just say it wasn't a minor difference, it was a huge difference! My carpet cleaner only does maybe 20% of the job they did, and that's if I do an extremely thorough job. Overall the carpets were way cleaner, got more spots up and dried faster too. Especially in my high traffic area's. I tried to take before and after pictures, but the lighting wasn't as good. You can see in this picture the part they had cleaned on the right, and the part they hadn't on the left. My high traffic area's is where I was the most difference.

Also some companies use harsh or cheap products that strip carpets of their protective coats, which is another reason to go with EcoClean. They have all natural safe ingredients and also use a clean rinse to remove all chemical and give your carpet a more thorough deep down clean. If not done right, they can leave a sticky residue actually making carpet dirtier faster. EcoClean has a process done by professionals. They had great customer service and were very helpful, answering all my questions.

We moved into our home about a year ago already wanting to replace the carpet upstairs. I've mentioned before that I was waiting to finish the family room downstairs before doing it, but I may just hold off now. One thing I learned while they cleaned the carpet was time frames of cleaning your carpets and scotch guarding it. They recommend at least annually to get it professionally cleaned maybe even 18 months if you take good care of it. When you buy new carpet the protective coating on it usually lasts approximately 3-5 years. When most people hit the 7-8 year mark they think the carpet is just so done it just needs to be replaced. Did you know you can just get it scotch guarded again to help it last longer? I had no idea you could even do that! They recommend doing that about every 1 1/2 - 3 years depending on amount of foot traffic. I had him do my high traffic area's for more resilience. Now I don't get as mad when a kid forgets and runs across it with his shoes on.

Another tricky part can be stains. Especially red stains. They were saying if you try to get them out one way, and it won't come out, then you most likely set it. Their website has a post on how to handle stains like this. Check it out at www.ecocarpetutah.com/blog/juicespills.html

Overall I was very satisfied and next time I need a good carpet cleaning in Utah I know who I am going to call. (Not to mention they service way out in Eagle Mountain ;)

One thing I learned about and am excided to do in the near future is have my couch cleaned and scotch guarded. We love our couch and spend a lot of time on it. Now that it is 8 years old, the scotch guard on it has worn off and it is due for another one. Don't forget to check out their website for more than just carpet cleaning in Utah.

Toilet Bowl Hard Water Stains Fix

A while back I posted about my gross toilet. When we bought our house it had just sat for a few months giving the upstairs bathrooms toilets hard water stains. I tried everything. I tried, CLR, Lime Away, white vinegar and baking soda, bleach and good ol' weekly elbow grease. My friend Tawny from Tawny's Tid Bits talk to a janitor at her work and suggested something acidic. I almost went to a local janitorial supply store to request just that, until I solved the problem with no out of pocket cost.
One very late night at book club apparently everyone but me knew how to fix the problem. The solution is to just use a pumice stone or really fine sandpaper. I grabbed some sandpaper out of my garage, and voila problem solved. I couldn't believe after fighting this for over a year it only took a few minutes to fix. More surprising was it didn't cost me any extra out of pocket cost.

Another Norwex Post and Hot Chocolate Bar

I just got done with hosting a Norwex show. It was a lot of fun and also very informative. I did a fun hot chocolate bar which was really yummy. Here are a few things that stood out to me from the Norwex consultant Tricia, and my printable hot chocolate bar tags.

The first thing was the label on Lysol wipes. I know have used these a lot in the past. I have even given them to my kids to use to clean stuff. Never have I ever actually read the instructions before. I never noticed the not to be used by children, or keep out of reach of children before. I also didn't notice that in order to it to actually disinfect it has to stay wet for 10 minutes. To sanitize it's 30 seconds (I just pulled that off Lysols website) and to disinfect (especially the big ones like salmonella and H1N1) it has to remain wet for 10 minutes. Then it says to "rinse all food contact surfaces and toys with water after use." Why would they say to rinse it with water? Well to clean off the chemicals left over before you eat them, putting it bluntly. I found a Lysol container in the way back of my daughters bathroom that was dried out, but sure enough, that's what it said. Here is the picture I just took:

That just made their enviro cloth shine that much greater to me. I tried to find a good video on how well it works, and this is the best one I have found.

She also gave us a list of products that her niece's oncologist gave her of products not to use. I was amazed at the list. I'll have to get a copy of it to share. My 3 favorite products are the enviro cloth, the window cloth, and the dust mitt. You can buy all 3 for just under $50.00. These products are amazing. You can look up more about them here.

Only 24 hours left in my giveaway for and enviro cloth. Go check it out here.

I also did a hot chocolate party while I hosted the Norwex party.  I felt really crafty and special. Click on the picture to download the tags I created for the hot chocolate bar. My only suggestion is printing it smaller, maybe 2 to a page. I thought mine came out a little big.

Norwex Cleaning Products & Giveaway

Recently I learned about a great new cleaning company called Norwex. I was blown away by what they can do. They have so many great products I thought I would list my favorites. Here are some of them:

The Enviro Cloth-
I just got my Enviro Cloth and have been using it non stop! It is amazing. It is one of the best microfiber cloths I have ever used. It's strands are 1/200th the size of a strand of human hair, which allows it to pick up so much more than a normal cloth. The part that makes them more special is the microsilver imbedded in the cloth. This allows it to have a self purification process eliminating odors and mold/mildew growth. I watched my consultant put raw kitchen on the counter and show the bacteria on a swab.  Then she rinsed her Enviro cloth with water, wiped it up and the counter was clean!!! Then you just rinse out the cloth and hang it up to air dry. Who would have thought a cloth and water can clean raw chicken?

The Window Cloth-
How much money would you save if you never needed window cleaner again?  Simply spray windows, mirrors, or any shiny surface with just water and wipe it with a dry window cloth. It's that easy! Now my kids won't waste half a bottle of Windex on 1 window. If it's really dirty or grimy use an Enviro cloth first then the window cloth. VoilĂ . it's that easy.

Makeup Remover Cloth-
How fabulous would it be to never pay for a makeup remover again too? With the makeup remover cloth, again, all you need is the cloth and water. Yes, that include cleaning off your mascara too. In the past I have even owned 2 different kinds of makeup removers one for my face and one for eye make up, now I don't need either.

Let's not forget how environmentally friendly all their products are! I think we have been trained to think that lemon, pine or other scents mean something is clean. In reality clean has no smell. Clean is just clean.

Those are my 3 most favorites so far. I have purchased there toothbrush which is suppose to help get rid of more bacteria than other toothbrushes. My consultants has had clients that have had less canker sores since the switch, so time will tell if it helps me or not, I'll pay just about anything to help reduce and lessen my canker sore outbreaks. She has had some people that have had less acne and eczema using the body cloths as well. I also want to get the mitt that attracts dust better than anything else I have seen. That way my kids can do a better dusting job. Just to add a few things I am intrigues about.

To purchase your own Norwex cloths or other products click here. Don't be shy, tell her I sent you. Or you can also send her a message to be added to her monthly mailing list for deals and specials.

Things I {Don't} Love Thursday

I teamed up with Lulu & Sweet Pea to bring to you things I don't love Thursday. I'm tempted to  add this week into the things I don't love. It has been so slow and I have felt so drained. It's almost over though so I am excited for that.

1- I don't love dried out toothpaste. Growing up my big brother would get so mad at me if toothpaste got anywhere besides inside the toothpaste container. I have been trying to get my kids to brush by themselves more often and their toothpaste grosses me out!

2- Right now I don't love my son's bathroom. Not only is he the only one to use it (cause it's downstairs) but I hate the prior owners paint job. It was painted poorly with this ugly pink and brown color. Hopefully by next week I have the paint job fixed. Although both my husband and I have spoke to my son about flushing and aiming, and we make him clean it himself, I still think I won't love this for a long time!

3- Today (and most days for that matter) I hate folding laundry. I try playing games like fold it while it's still warm, and timing myself, but lets face it folding laundry is my least favorite chore! It usually sits there till someone is coming over or I need the baskets. I have thought of buying more laundry baskets but then I would have no motivation to ever fold it. Plus I usually have to wait till kids go to bed to fold it, and usually by then all my good intentions crash with me!
What things do you not love this week? I would love to know!
